Never read the book, though.

When it comes to the movie version, I guess they figured they could get away with it by eviscerating most of the dark humor and genuinely disturbing goings-on from the original miniseries, then dumbing down what's left to a bog-standard revenge "comedy". It was like a bad remake of The Girl Most Likely To ...

In the mini-series, Julie Hall's She-Devil was sympathetic but at the same time terrifying, while Barr was just whiny. As for Streep, I think she did about as well as anyone could with what was handed her. It wouldn't surprise me, though, to find out that she vetted her roles a bit more carefully after this dog.grouchomarxistnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1776456473941522431.post-4987413061902081792014-03-03T07:58:04.583-08:002014-03-03T07:58:04.583-08:00Li'l Innocent - I have also seen the adaptatio...Li'l Innocent - I have also seen the adaptation and read the book. EXCEPT for the possibility that I may be the only Crapper who's seen the Brit "Life and Loves of a She-Devil". Read the book, too. The BBC mini-series is indeed a strikingly British, mordant, darkly amusing thing, with a sharp bite to it. It's a morality tale in its way, but it's kind of up to you, the viewer, to decide what your, or its, or the author's moral stance may be. I'm not sure I'd call it a comedy, since its whole point is completely OTT gender revenge.

I looked the title up on Wikipedia, and the precis of the plot of the Fay Weldon book brought back to me how bloody-minded it and the TV movie are.Li'l Innocenthttp://ladysmantle.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1776456473941522431.post-63368136922522325472014-03-02T18:18:41.095-08:002014-03-02T18:18:41.095-08:00Think what a classic could have been made of a pic...Think what a classic could have been made of a picture where Bruce and Bette Davis had to play a two-headed creature

would the beast with two heads also make the beast with two backs? and would you have to stand on *both * their necks? ;}preznithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02112468490241139292noreply@blogger.com
