Dippity-Do's and Don'ts
So Bill S. asked if I remember this goo, and I do, I Dippity-do. Specifically, I remember my mother wouldn't let me leave the house without dousing my incipient hippie hair in the stuff in an effort to foil the Counterculture with styling gel. I also remember it became very brittle when it dried, so I usually spent the first ten minutes of Third Grade Home Room tapping the top of my head and listening to my hair go "crunch! crunch! crunch!" like I was walking through snow.
This pink slime isn't as ubiquitous as it once was, although I understand the makers have secured a new lease on life by extruding it into Chicken McNuggets.

I remember the song that went with the commercial, sometimes. My Mom used it when it first came out in the early 60's, but she used it very sparingly. Sometimes she would put it on my hair to help the little curl she tried to add to my hair, hold the next day.
She gave up trying to get my hair to hold a curl. From Toni home perms in the 3rd grade to longish straight (my normal) hair by the 8th grade.
The song for Brylcreem is stuck in my head more than the other and I try not to hear it in my head.
Nasty stuff, Dippity- do
Now I'll have dreams about it.
Looking at the jar, it reminds me of that "pink slime" they add to ground "beef" these days...
MMTAP: My thoughts exactly.
Joan: I can only vaguely recall the song, but I suppose a quick trip to YouTube would refresh my memory. Which is why I'm staying FAR away from YT today until this lunatic urge passes...
I still MISS Dippity Do! Sheeeyuttt, with the sea-green Dippity Do & some Aqua-Net, I was SET. TO. GO. !!!!!!
Y'know that Whitesnake song "Here I Go Again (On My Own)"?
Picture me, much younger & larger, hair the size of a smallish Shetland pony, screaming down Florida Blvd. towards the MS river in Baton Rouge, with that song blasting out of cheap-assed speakers and a sloppily-installed cassette deck. That. Was. My "social life," and damn if I didn't have a little bit of fun... *sigh*
